2nd Lt. Thomas A. "Bud" Quirk, Jr.,
U.S. Army Air Corps.
Thomas Quirk enlisted in the Army in 1939. Stationed with the 15th Infantry Division for 2 years. He then transferred to the Army Air Corps. Lt. Quirk flew missions in a flying fortress flying out of England to Germany. He was killed in an explosion of his B-17. The Gimbel-Lehey-Quirk VFW Post 2226, Oakhurst, NJ bears his name. European Theatre.
Sgt. Isidore Gruber, U.S. Army
8th Infantry, of the 4th Division. The 4th Division landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944, and took part in the capture of Cherbourg, assisted in the Liberation of Paris and moved on into Belgium. The division kept moving and was at the Hurtgen Forest by December 1944. They were involved in heavy fighting and were in Luxembourg at the beginning of the "Battle of the Bulge" on December 16, 1944. The Division continued on and Sgt. Gruber was wounded on March 5, 1945. European Theatre.
